An Open Letter To Charity Shops And Those Who Manage Them
Posted by Mike Eley on
Dear Sirs As a retailer of discontinued tableware, you will appreciate that we are only able to source our goods from the second hand/pre-loved market. For us this includes private individuals, car boot sales, antique fairs, flea markets, auctions and of course, the high street charity shops and the more recent addition of out of town charity warehouses. Every year we spend thousands of pounds across a variety of charity shops, some local to us, and many more around the UK as our procurement team travel the length and breadth of the country. On the whole we enjoy great relationships...

The term 'cherry-picking' is derived from the concept of harvesting only the ripest fruit; the picking of the best at the exclusion of the rest. At MrPottery, when we are asked to provide a quote for the purchase of someone's preloved china, we have a strict policy of NOT cherry picking. We believe that to do so is unethical as it nearly always leaves the seller in a poorer position than they would have been had they been left with a full service to sell. Of course, this does mean we will not always quote on a selection of china...
Why we don't negotiate
Posted by Mike Eley on
If you are reading this, you have likely received our offer for some tableware you are seeking to sell, and just read the bit, maybe with a little disappointment, that says, "This offer is non-negotiable." So, why don't we negotiate? To save time! Unlike many of our competitors we don't believe in making a deliberately low offer with a view to negotiating backwards and forwards. Instead we offer our best price right from the outset. We feel this is a more honest and transparent approach. "But... my china is all perfect." That's great! If you re-read our email offer, we have quoted...

Sadly, we can't buy everything
Posted by Mike Eley on
If you are reading this you have likely received an email from us declining your offer to sell us your pre-loved china. We are genuinely sorry about that, but as the title of this document says, "... we can't buy everything." We understand that for some people, a simple "No thank you" is not enough and some explanation is required. Sadly we don't have time to give everyone a specific reason, so we have put this article together by way of explanation. Please don't take offence You would be amazed how many customers call us, just to tell us how awful...
