Environmental & Packaging Policy
We believe ourselves to be on the right side of the equation when it comes to our carbon footprint. After all, our very business is based on the sourcing and redistribution of thousands of pre-loved pieces of tableware every year.
However, we appreciate that we should always be looking to do more.
Wherever practical we use environmentally friendly packaging materials such as recycled and/or responsibly sourced cardboard boxes, along with filler made from 100% recycled commercial waste.
In July 2021 we started using 'paper bubble wrap' and 'hive wrap' as a planet friendly alternative to plastic bubble. We occasionally still use plastic bubble wrap for particularly fragile items (e.g. glassware) and larger international shipments where there is a greater risk of breakage.
In September 2021, we switched from polypropylene and PVC tapes to paper tapes to make it easier to recycle the cardboard boxes we use.
We are constantly reviewing our packaging processes with a view to reducing our materials and minimising the environmental impact without increasing the risk of breakages. In fact, we have an excellent track record of shipping without breakages. with less than 1 in 3000 parcels damaged in transit thanks to nearly 30 years experience sending fragile items all over the world.
If you are unsure what to do with the packaging materials once you have received your china, most charity shops will be grateful for any bubble wrap and filler, and the cardboard, paper bubble wrap and hive wrap will go in your recycling bin. Websites such as Freecycle.org are also great places to dispose of excess reusable packaging. Alternatively, if you know anyone who runs a local business who regularly posts things, they will no doubt appreciate the donation... we always do!
