C'est la grande tortue de la famille des tortues. Il a été introduit en 1958 et était généralement appelé Papa Tortue. Wade l'a appelé dans sa littérature « Papa est un cendrier ». Il comporte un couvercle amovible (la coque), qui révèle un cendrier peu profond. Il peut également être utilisé comme petit plat à bibelots.
