Royal Albert Flower of the Month is a long-running floral series in which each month of the year is represented by a different flower. Versions of the series were produced from at least the 1950s, with a number of different Royal Albert shapes used over the years, followed by the particularly familiar later series introduced around 1970.

The later Flower of the Month sequence features Snowdrops for January, Violets for February, Anemones for March, Sweet Pea for April, Lily of the Valley for May, Roses for June, Forget-Me-Not for July, Poppy for August, Michaelmas Daisy for September, Cosmos for October, Chrysanthemum for November and Christmas Rose for December.

Earlier versions of the series were produced on shapes including Hampton, Gainsborough and a smooth cup shape, and some of the flowers associated with individual months differed from those used in the later range. We therefore group the different Royal Albert Flower of the Month shapes together within one collection, identifying the month, flower and particular shape within each individual product listing.

Decoration varies slightly according to period and shape, but the series is characterised by naturalistic floral studies against a white ground, frequently complemented by fine gold edging. Versions without gold trim can also be found, reflecting the many different forms in which the collection was produced over its long life.

Flower of the Month was made across an unusually wide selection of tea, dinner and serving ware. Known pieces include dinner, salad and tea plates, bowls, tea and coffee cups and saucers, breakfast cups, mugs, milk jugs, sugar bowls, egg cups, serving pieces and other speciality items, making it as much a full tableware collection as a decorative series.

As Royal Albert Flower of the Month is now discontinued, individual months and particular shapes can vary considerably in availability. At MrPottery we list our pre-loved replacement pieces by month, flower, shape and condition to help you find the closest possible match for an existing service.
