Read more about Poole Pottery Vortex

Poole Pottery Vortex was issued in the mid 1970s and decorated using glaze reactive lithographs on the well known Broadstone base design. Its distinctive circular pattern, built from warm orange, yellow and brown tones, gives it a very recognisable 1970s look.

Vortex belongs to the group of Compact shape tableware designs produced on Poole’s Broadstone and Parkstone style backgrounds. It is closely related to Poole Pottery Lagoon, which uses a similar geometric idea in blue and stoneware tones.

The Broadstone background is an important part of the Vortex story, with its speckled cream glaze, ribbed rims and warm earthy colouring. Vortex appears to have been produced as decorated plates only, with the rest of the matching service made up from the wider Poole Pottery Broadstone range. This means that cups, saucers, lids and many serving pieces are usually plain Broadstone rather than separately decorated Vortex pieces.

Customers looking for Poole Pottery Vortex replacement china are often trying to replace a broken plate, bowl, cup, saucer or serving piece, complete a part service, or add useful extras to an existing set. Availability can vary, as our stock depends on what becomes available through the pre-loved market.

When matching Vortex, it is worth checking both the central pattern and the underlying Broadstone glaze, as plain or partly decorated pieces can be easy to confuse with related Poole ranges from the same period.
