Poole Pottery Lagoon was issued in the mid 1970s as one of the decorated patterns produced on Poole’s Compact shape. It appears on the Poole Pottery Parkstone glaze background, with the distinctive ribbed edging and dark rim associated with that group of Poole tableware.
The design is immediately recognisable, with concentric circular and octagonal forms in blue, turquoise, cream and brown across the centre of plates and bowls. The colours and geometry give Lagoon a very period feel, sitting comfortably alongside other 1970s Poole designs from the Compact range.
Lagoon is part of the same wider family of Compact tableware patterns as Parkstone, Broadstone and Argosy. Where the plainer ranges relied mainly on glaze and shape, Lagoon adds a bold graphic centrepiece, making it particularly effective on flatware.
For many customers, Lagoon is a pattern they are trying to keep in regular use. As a discontinued Poole range, it is often sought out by those looking to replace a broken dinner plate, find a missing side plate, or add useful bowls and serving pieces to an existing set.
Availability depends entirely on what becomes available through the pre-loved market. As with many 1970s Poole designs, some pieces are much harder to find than others, particularly those that saw regular everyday use.
