Poole Pottery Honeydew (Matt) is one of Poole’s plainer glazed tableware designs, believed to date from around the 1950s. Reliable published information about the range appears to be limited, so we avoid giving a firm introduction date unless a catalogue reference comes to light.
The design features a warm honey-yellow glaze, often contrasted with a lighter exterior or edging depending on the piece. The matt finish gives the colour a softer, calmer look than the brighter glossy version, making it a subtle but attractive Poole tableware range.
Honeydew was produced on shapes familiar from Poole’s Twintone period, including bowls, cups, saucers, plates and serving pieces. This page refers to the matt version, which should be distinguished from the related Poole Honeydew gloss version.
When matching Honeydew, it is worth checking both the finish and the shape. The matt and gloss versions can look quite different alongside one another, and Poole’s long production history means small shape variations may also occur.
For many customers, Honeydew is a pattern they are trying to keep in regular use. As a discontinued Poole range, it is often sought out by those looking to replace a broken bowl, find a missing cup and saucer, or add useful serving pieces to an existing set.
Availability depends entirely on what becomes available through the pre-loved market. Honeydew is not one of the Poole ranges we see every day, so individual pieces may only appear from time to time.
