Denby Venice was introduced in the mid-1970s as part of Denby Pottery’s Renaissance Collection, designed by Gill Pemberton. Originally aimed at the American market, the range was also made available in the UK and featured three coordinated colourways: green Venice, blue Castile and brown Seville.
Venice is distinguished by its soft sage green banding, paired with a lighter central ground and fine geometric detailing around the well. The combination gives the design a calm, balanced look, while still retaining the durability and practicality for which Denby is known.
While Castile and Seville proved to be the more widely produced and longer-running patterns in the collection, Venice had a shorter production life. As a result, it is seen less frequently today, though it remains a favourite among collectors who appreciate its understated colourway.
As a discontinued design, Denby Venice is sought after by those looking for replacement china to complete or extend an existing set. Availability varies by piece, with some items becoming increasingly difficult to source.
When matching Venice, slight variations in the tone of the green glaze and the strength of the banding can occur. These subtle differences are typical of Denby production and add to the individuality of each piece.
