Denby Potters Wheel (Green) was designed by David Yorath and introduced in 1973 as part of the wider Potters Wheel range. The design combines durable stoneware with a simple but highly recognisable banded decoration, making it one of Denby’s most enduring styles of the period.
The pattern features an oatmeal coloured body with a soft milk chocolate rim, enhanced by concentric ring detailing. In the Green variation, colour is used in a restrained way, typically appearing as a fine band around the base of hollowware pieces and as a coloured centre well on plates. This gives the design a natural, understated feel while still retaining its distinctive identity.
Potters Wheel was produced in several colourways, including Denby Potters Wheel (Rust), Denby Potters Wheel (Blue) and Denby Potters Wheel (Yellow). While the Rust version was the most widely produced, the alternative colours, including Green, were often made with export markets in mind, particularly the United States.
As a range, Potters Wheel was produced as a full service, including plates, bowls, cups and a wide selection of oven-to-table pieces. Many supporting items, such as saucers, are identical across the different colourways and can be used interchangeably, reflecting the shared shapes and overall design structure of the range.
Now discontinued, Denby Potters Wheel (Green) remains a popular variation for those looking to replace or extend an existing set, or to introduce subtle contrast alongside other colourways. Availability can vary depending on the piece, as stock depends on what becomes available in the pre-loved market.
When matching Denby Potters Wheel (Green), it is worth noting that variations can occur in the tone of the oatmeal body, the depth of the glaze and the intensity of the green detailing. These subtle differences are typical of Denby’s production methods and sit comfortably within the overall look of the pattern.
