Denby "Homestead Brown"

Denby Homestead Brown

Denby Homestead Brown is a classic mid-century design, first introduced in 1953 following the lifting of post-war restrictions on colour in pottery production. With its rich brown glaze and contrasting blue interiors, it represents one of Denby’s most enduring early ranges.

Denby Homestead Brown was introduced in 1953 and forms part of a group of early post-war Denby designs that also includes Denby Manor Green and Denby Cottage Blue. These ranges reflect a renewed use of colour in British pottery following the lifting of wartime restrictions.

The design is characterised by its deep glossy brown exterior glaze, contrasted with blue interiors on plates and other pieces. The shade of blue can vary from a softer sky blue through to a more lavender tone, depending on the period of production.

Produced over a number of years, Homestead Brown was made in a wide variety of items, from everyday tableware through to serving and kitchen pieces. As with many long-running Denby patterns, variations in shape and finish can be found across the range.

The combination of rich glaze and contrasting interior gives the range a distinctive and recognisable appearance, while maintaining the durability associated with Denby stoneware.

As a discontinued Denby pattern, Homestead Brown remains popular with collectors and those looking to replace or extend an existing set. Availability can vary depending on the item, as supply is dependent on what becomes available on the pre-loved market.

We regularly source Denby Homestead Brown from the pre-loved market, so availability changes frequently.
