Denby Greenwheat is widely regarded as one of the classic Denby designs and remains a familiar sight at antiques fairs and collectors’ markets. Introduced in 1956, it combined practical everyday stoneware with a distinctive hand-painted decorative style that helped make it one of the pottery’s most successful ranges.
The pattern features a hand-painted wheat sheaf design set against a white eggshell-glazed ground, complemented by richly glazed green lids, saucers and bases. This contrast between the softer main body and the deeper green glazed elements gives the range its characteristic look.
Produced for more than two decades, Greenwheat was made in a very wide variety of pieces, from everyday tableware through to serving items, kitchenware and accessories. Some pieces were also produced with teak stands, adding to the appeal of the range and reflecting the mid-century taste of the period.
Because of its long production run, minor variations can be found across the range, which can be of interest to collectors and important for those trying to match existing pieces closely.
As one of Denby’s best-known discontinued patterns, Greenwheat remains highly sought after by collectors and by those looking for replacement china to complete or extend an existing set. Availability can vary depending on the piece, as supply is dependent on what becomes available on the pre-loved market.
We regularly source Denby Greenwheat from the pre-loved market, so availability changes frequently.
