Denby "Eclipse"

Denby Eclipse is a striking 1950s tableware design, introduced in 1956. With its glossy black exterior and contrasting white interior, it offered a bold and modern look while using the same successful shapes as earlier Denby ranges such as Manor Green and Homestead Brown.

Introduced in 1956, Denby Eclipse was produced using the same shape and general style as earlier successful Denby ranges including Denby Manor Green and Homestead Brown. This gave the pattern a familiar practicality, combined with a much bolder and more contemporary colour treatment.
The design is defined by its glossy black exterior and crisp white interior, creating a smart and dramatic contrast. In its early production, plates were made available in both black and white glaze versions, offering customers a coordinated but slightly varied table setting.
However, the black-glazed plates proved prone to scratching in everyday use, and were later withdrawn in favour of the white alternative. This makes the black plate version particularly interesting from a collecting and matching point of view.
Eclipse reflects Denby’s willingness during the 1950s to adapt established shapes with fresh glaze combinations, giving familiar forms a noticeably different character.
As a discontinued Denby pattern, Eclipse is now sought after by collectors and by those hoping to replace pieces from an existing set. Availability can vary depending on the item, particularly where less common versions are concerned, as supply is dependent on what becomes available on the pre-loved market.
We regularly source Denby Eclipse from the pre-loved market, so availability changes frequently.
