Denby "Arabesque"

First introduced in the 1960s and designed by Gill Pemberton, Denby Arabesque became one of the most recognisable and widely collected designs produced by Denby Pottery. It began life as a small range of giftware before quickly expanding into a full tableware service, reflecting its immediate popularity.

The design features a bold arrangement of stylised circular motifs in rich tones of yellow, red and orange, set against a deep brown background. Early pieces were hand-painted, resulting in natural variations in colour and pattern, while later production moved to a more uniform transfer-printed finish.

Arabesque was produced in a wide range of shapes and pieces, many of which reflect the practical, durable qualities for which Denby is well known. Its distinctive look and strong identity have made it a favourite among collectors, often prompting a “love it or hate it” reaction due to its striking design.
