Alfred Meakin

Alfred Meakin can trace it's roots back to 1875 when it was first set up by Alfred Meakin himself. Initially trading out of the Royal Albert, Victoria and Highgate Potteries in Tunstall it saw many early successes. Unfortunately, neither Alfred who passed away on 1904, or his son and successor, Alfred James, who died in 1908, saw many of these. Alfred John's uncle, Robert Johnson, bought the company for his son Stuart who moved the works to Newfield Pottery in 1930. The business stayed in the family until 1976 when it became Myott-Meakin and shortly later part of the Churchill Group.
