Royal Doulton "Springdale"

Royal Doulton Springdale was introduced in 1996 as part of the Royal Doulton Expressions range. Its decoration forms a light, informal floral border of small blue, pink and deeper burgundy flowers interspersed with green leaves, berries and occasional butterflies, all set against a clean white ground and finished with a fine blue line around the edge.

Springdale is particularly reminiscent of Royal Doulton Florentina, another floral pattern from the Expressions range. Both use a similarly delicate arrangement of small flowers and trailing green foliage, but Springdale has a different balance of colour and is distinguished by its blue trim, whereas Florentina is normally finished with green edging.

The restrained decoration works particularly well across the rounded shapes used throughout the range. On larger pieces such as teapots, milk jugs and covered sugar bowls the floral trail follows the curve of the body, while plates, saucers and bowls use it as a light border around the edge.

Like many of the Expressions patterns, Springdale has an easy, everyday character rather than the more formal appearance associated with some traditional Royal Doulton services. Its combination of soft floral decoration and simple blue edging makes it attractive on its own while also remaining easy to recognise when searching for replacement pieces.

Royal Doulton Springdale is now discontinued, so matching pieces are generally found through the pre-loved market. At MrPottery we specialise in discontinued and replacement china, helping you find individual Springdale pieces to complete or extend an existing service.
