Poole Pottery "Bamboo (Smokey Grey Version)"

Poole Pottery Bamboo Smokey Grey Version

Poole Pottery Bamboo Smokey Grey is our working name for this modern bamboo-style design on a soft beige glaze. It features black bamboo decoration, black rim detail and a smokey grey shaded base, giving it a very different look from the other Poole bamboo design we list.

Poole Pottery Bamboo Smokey Grey is the name we currently use for this distinctive bamboo-inspired design, although we have not yet been able to confirm whether this was the official Poole pattern name. The decoration features slim black bamboo stems and leaves, set against a soft beige glaze with a smokey grey shaded lower section.

This version has a more graphic, contemporary feel than the cream and pink bamboo design also listed on our site. The black detailing, dark rim and shaded grey base give the pieces a sharper look, while the simple bamboo motif keeps the overall design calm and uncluttered.

Poole produced a number of later designs that used individual motifs, soft glaze effects and more informal styling. This pattern appears to sit within that broader late 20th century design approach, where decoration was often used sparingly but with strong visual impact.

As this is a discontinued Poole design, availability depends on what becomes available through the pre-loved market. This pattern should not be confused with the other Poole bamboo design we list, which has a warmer cream glaze and pink leaf detail. If you recognise this design and know its correct Poole name, or have an original catalogue reference, we would be very pleased to hear from you.
