Limoges

Limoges
Limoges porcelain factory traces its origins to the late 18th century, when kaolin—essential for fine porcelain—was discovered near Limoges, France. Backed by royal patronage, the first factory was established in 1771, and by 1784, it was under the control of the Sèvres royal manufactory. Limoges quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality, translucent white porcelain, rivalling the best in Europe. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, it became a centre for innovation and craftsmanship, supplying decorative and utilitarian porcelain to both elite and popular markets. Today, “Limoges” denotes both a region and a prestigious legacy of French porcelain production.
