Aynsley China wurde 1775 von John Aynsley gegründet. Ursprünglich in Lane End, Longton, Staffordshire ansässig, wurden die Werke 1861 von seinem Enkel John Aynsley in die Portland Works verlegt. Das Unternehmen, das damals John Aynsley and Sons hieß, hatte großen Erfolg und wurde 1970 zu einer begehrten Akquisition für einige der damals größeren Unternehmen, da es Angebote von Unternehmen wie Spode und Denby erhielt.
