Spode "Spode's Byron" Sandwich Dish (Series 2)
Spode "Spode's Byron" Sandwich Dish (Series 2)
This is a sandwich dish in the Spode's Byron design. It was originally made c. 1937 at the request of Angus Watson to be used as a premium gift as part of a promotion to sell their "Skipper Sardines". Two different promotions were run, each one featuring a different scene (known as 'Series 1' and 'Series 2') on the dish. This plate features 'Series 2'. The original dish also included a metal handle which clipped over the edges of the plate and contained an integral fork, but it is very rare to find these today. These item is therefore sold 'plate only'.
