Poole Pottery "Zilli"

Poole Pottery Zilli is an unusual and rarely seen design associated with the chef Aldo Zilli. Made on a red earthenware body, it features a soft green ground with abstract blue, orange and green decoration around the rim, giving it a distinctive, almost Aztec-inspired look.

Poole Pottery Zilli is one of the less commonly encountered modern Poole tableware designs, and stands apart from many of the factory’s better-known floral, sponge decorated and glaze-led ranges. Its abstract rim decoration, with blocks of colour and loose geometric detail, gives the pattern a bold, contemporary feel.
The design is generally associated with Aldo Zilli, the well-known Italian chef and restaurateur, and has a strong 1990s dining style about it. Rather than the bright white earthenware seen on many later Poole ranges, Zilli was made on a red earthenware base, which gives the pieces a warmer character and helps set it apart from more familiar Poole tableware designs.
Zilli does not appear very often, so individual pieces can be difficult to source. As with many discontinued Poole Pottery patterns, availability depends on what comes into the pre-loved market, and matching pieces may take a little patience.
