Poole Pottery Stoneware Wildlife Sculptures is a useful collecting heading for the much-loved range of stoneware animal and bird figures modelled by Barbara Linley Adams. Produced from the early 1970s until 1983, these pieces captured a wide variety of wildlife subjects, from small garden birds and woodland creatures to larger animal studies, all with the gentle character and natural observation that made Barbara’s work so distinctive.
The first of the series is generally noted as the Wren on a Branch, introduced in 1972. Over the following decade the range expanded considerably, with well over one hundred different models produced. Birds were especially popular, but the series also included animals such as mice, squirrels, rabbits and other countryside favourites, making it one of Poole’s most appealing decorative groups of the period.
These sculptures were made in stoneware and are usually found in soft natural tones that suit the modelling well, with hand finished detail helping to bring out the texture of feathers, fur and facial features. The result is a range that feels both decorative and full of personality, with each subject having its own particular charm.
Customers looking for Poole Pottery Stoneware Wildlife Sculptures are often searching for a specific animal or bird, or adding to an existing collection built up over many years. Availability varies from model to model, as our stock depends entirely on what becomes available through the pre-loved market.
When collecting these figures, it is worth noting that the range includes many different sizes, poses and subjects. Some are more commonly found than others, and certain models can be especially sought after, particularly the earlier pieces and the more unusual wildlife subjects.
