Poole Pottery New England was introduced in 1995 and was designed by Anita Harris. It belongs to the group of hand-decorated Poole tableware designs from the 1990s, where sponged and painted decoration gave the ranges a softer, more individual character.

The design features autumnal leaves in layered shades of green, red, russet and golden brown, with trailing tendrils and a mottled green rim. The effect is warm and seasonal, with a relaxed country feel that has helped make New England one of the more sought after Poole patterns from this period.

New England has a busier and richer look than some of Poole’s quieter leaf designs, with the overlapping leaves giving plates, bowls and tea ware plenty of movement. The hand-decorated finish also means that small differences in colour depth, placement and sponging are part of the pattern’s character.

For many customers, New England is a pattern they are trying to keep in regular use. As a discontinued Poole range, it is often sought out by those looking to replace a broken plate, find a missing cup and saucer, or add useful serving pieces to an existing set.

Availability depends entirely on what becomes available through the pre-loved market. Although New England remains popular, it is not a pattern we see in large quantities, so individual pieces may only appear from time to time.
