Poole Pottery Mandalay is a striking discontinued design from Poole Pottery, decorated in muted greys and browns on a smoky cream ground. The floral and foliage design has a soft, slightly moody character, giving Mandalay a very different feel from Poole’s brighter floral patterns.
The pattern was produced on the same rounded tableware shape as Poole Summer Glory and Poole Springtime. This shape gives the range a familiar Poole look, with flowing teapots, rounded cups and softly formed plates and bowls.
Mandalay is usually seen with a gloss finish, although matt finished pieces are occasionally found. The same design also appears from time to time on the Compact shape. We believe these variations may have been sold as seconds through the Poole retail outlet, rather than forming part of the main standard tableware range.
For many customers, Mandalay is a pattern they are trying to keep in regular use. As a discontinued Poole range, it is often sought out by those looking to replace a broken cup, find a missing saucer, or add plates and serving pieces to an existing set.
Availability depends entirely on what becomes available through the pre-loved market. When matching Mandalay, it is worth checking the shape and finish carefully, as the gloss version on the Summer Glory and Springtime shape is the standard version most customers are likely to be looking for.
