Poole Pottery Gypsy was introduced in 1992 and was designed by Anita Harris. It belongs to Poole’s early 1990s period, when the factory was producing a number of hand-decorated underglaze designs with a loose, painterly feel.
The pattern features blue and green leaf forms with small yellow flowers, arranged in a lively border-style design on white earthenware. The decoration combines stencilled and hand-painted elements, giving the pieces a fresh, informal character with plenty of movement.
Gypsy sits alongside other Anita Harris designs from this period, including patterns such as Blue Vine, Reflections and Vineyard. Like those ranges, it has a handmade quality, with slight variations in colour strength and decoration placement forming part of its appeal.
For many customers, Gypsy is a pattern they are trying to keep in regular use. As a discontinued Poole range, it is often sought out by those looking to replace a broken cup, find a missing plate, or add useful serving pieces to an existing set.
Availability depends entirely on what becomes available through the pre-loved market. Gypsy was not one of Poole’s longer-running or more commonly found designs, so individual pieces may only appear from time to time.
