Poole Pottery "Figures - Deep Brown Glaze"

Poole Pottery Figures - Deep Brown Glaze brings together decorative earthenware animal figures produced by Poole Pottery in a strong glossy brown finish. The glaze has a warm, chestnut-like depth, with darker areas gathering in the modelling and lighter highlights catching the raised detail.

We are aware of squirrel figures produced in this deep brown glaze, including standing examples with the tail curled behind the body. The rich glaze works particularly well on these models, helping to emphasise the form, posture and sculpted detail without the need for painted decoration.

Poole produced animal figures in a variety of bodies, glazes and finishes over the years, from earlier earthenware models to later decorative and collectible pieces. The Deep Brown Glaze examples are less widely seen than some of the better known figure finishes, which makes them interesting pieces for Poole collectors.

For many customers, these figures are collected as individual decorative Poole pieces. Some may be looking for a particular squirrel model, while others enjoy grouping different Poole animal figures together by glaze, subject or period.

As these pieces are now discontinued, availability depends entirely on what becomes available through the pre-loved market.
