Poole Pottery Dragonfly Blue was introduced in 1998 and designed by Zdenka Ralph. It is one of Poole’s later hand-decorated designs, using a soft cream background, sponged surface detail and bold blue dragonflies to create a light, nature-inspired pattern.
The blue dragonfly decoration gives the range a fresh and slightly contemporary feel, while the hand-painted finish keeps it recognisably connected to Poole’s late 20th century design-led tableware. The blue trim helps frame the pieces and ties the decoration together neatly.
This design is also found in a burgundy version, which uses the same dragonfly theme but with a warmer, deeper colour palette. Customers matching an existing set should check the colourway carefully before ordering, as the two versions are closely related but visually quite different.
For many customers, Dragonfly Blue is a pattern they are trying to keep in regular use. As a discontinued Poole range, it is often sought out by those looking to replace a broken plate, find a missing cup and saucer, or add useful serving pieces to an existing set.
Availability depends entirely on what becomes available through the pre-loved market. As with many hand-finished Poole designs, subtle differences in sponging, brushwork and colour depth are part of the pattern’s character.
