Poole Pottery Cyclamen was first seen in shops around 1975 to 1976 and was part of a group of decorated Poole patterns produced on the Compact shape. These designs used existing glaze backgrounds, with Cyclamen appearing on the warm Broadstone ground.

The pattern features a central spray of cyclamen flowers, with rich pink petals, dark stems and earthy brown-green leaves. The decoration sits against Broadstone’s yellowish speckled background, with the familiar ribbed edging and dark rim helping to frame the design.

The Compact shape was designed by Robert Jefferson and became one of Poole’s key modern tableware forms. By the mid 1970s, Poole was using the shape for a range of decorated designs, including patterns based on Parkstone, Broadstone and related backgrounds. Cyclamen is a good example of this period, combining practical tableware shapes with a strong floral centrepiece.

For many customers, Cyclamen is a pattern they are trying to keep in regular use. As a discontinued Poole range, it is often sought out by those looking to replace a broken plate or add useful pieces to an existing set.

Availability depends entirely on what becomes available through the pre-loved market. Cyclamen is not one of the Poole patterns we see every day, so individual pieces may only appear from time to time, especially the more heavily used dinner and salad plates.
