Poole Pottery Celeste was introduced in the mid 1950s and produced on Poole’s Cameo shape. It features a bright white interior with a glossy sea green exterior glaze, creating a clean and distinctive contrast that suits the smooth mid-century forms of the range.
Celeste is closely related in feel to Poole Pottery Blue Moon, which used a similar white interior with a darker blue exterior. While Blue Moon became one of Poole’s best known Cameo colourways, Celeste appears to have been produced in smaller numbers and is not found as frequently today.
The range can include cups, saucers, jugs, coffee pots, serving pieces and other useful tableware. Celeste containing ware was also used alongside our working-name Poole Arabesque Blue plates, in much the same way that Desert Song cups were paired with the original orange Arabesque design.
For many customers, Celeste is a pattern they are trying to keep in regular use. As a discontinued Poole range, it is often sought out by those looking to replace a missing cup, find a matching jug, or add useful serving pieces to an existing set.
Availability depends entirely on what becomes available through the pre-loved market. When matching existing pieces, it is worth allowing for small variations in glaze tone and shape detail, especially between earlier and later examples.
