Poole Pottery Calabash was introduced in 1995 and was designed by Anita Harris, whose work was central to Poole’s later hand-decorated tableware. The pattern uses a stencilled and hand-painted underglaze design, with squash, pea pods, tendrils and leafy detail arranged around the pieces.

The colour palette is fresh and natural, with soft yellows, warm green tones and darker leaf accents set against a white ground. The result is relaxed and decorative, with a kitchen garden feel that suits Poole’s 1990s move towards informal, hand-finished tableware.

Calabash sits alongside other Anita Harris designs from this period, many of which used fruit, foliage and garden-inspired motifs. The hand-finished nature of the decoration means that subtle differences in colour, placement and painted detail are part of the character of the range.

For many customers, Calabash is a pattern they are looking to keep in regular use. As a discontinued Poole range, it is often sought out by those trying to replace a broken plate, find a missing mug or add useful serving pieces to an existing set.

Availability depends entirely on what becomes available through the pre-loved market. Some pieces may appear only occasionally, so customers matching an existing Calabash service may need to check back from time to time.
