Poole Pottery Blue Vine was introduced in 1993 and was designed by Anita Harris, whose work played an important part in Poole’s later hand-decorated tableware. The design features blue grape and vine leaf decoration on a white ground, with a softly sponged background and blue rim detail.

The pattern has a relaxed, informal feel, typical of Poole’s early 1990s move towards more decorative and design-led tableware. The blue and white palette keeps the design fresh and simple, while the vine leaves and grapes add movement and interest across the surface of the pieces.

Blue Vine is closely related in feel to Poole Blue Leaf, another Anita Harris design from the same period. Blue Vine has a fuller, more clouded blue background effect and includes grape detail, while Blue Leaf has a slightly cleaner and more open appearance.

For many customers, Blue Vine is a pattern they are trying to keep in everyday use rather than simply collect. As a discontinued Poole range, it is often sought out by those looking to replace a broken plate, find a missing cup and saucer, or add useful extra pieces to an existing set.

As with many hand-finished Poole designs from this period, subtle differences in sponging, colour density, rim detail and decoration are part of the pattern’s character. Blue Vine is now discontinued and remains sought after, with availability depending entirely on what becomes available through the pre-loved market.
