Poole Pottery Blue Moon was introduced in the mid 1950s and is one of the best known colours associated with Poole’s Cameo tableware. A 1956 Poole colour schemes sheet shows Blue Moon alongside Celadon Green as part of the factory’s slip-decorated Cameo colours.
The design is simple but very effective, with a snow white interior contrasting against a rich, glossy sea blue exterior. This gives the pieces a crisp modern appearance while still retaining the soft curves and practical shapes associated with Poole tableware of the period.
Blue Moon was made for many years, which means it can be found across a wide selection of pieces including plates, bowls, teapots, coffee pots, jugs, cups and serving ware. Over a long production period, some shape and detail variations are to be expected, especially between earlier and later pieces.
As Blue Moon is now discontinued, availability depends on what becomes available through the pre-loved market. It remains a popular Poole range for customers looking to replace missing pieces, build up a service or collect examples of Poole’s elegant mid-century tableware.
