Poole Pottery "Arabesque (Blue)"

Poole Pottery Arabesque (Blue)

Poole Pottery Arabesque Blue is our working name for this attractive blue geometric design. It appears to be closely related to Poole’s orange Arabesque pattern, using a similar radiating motif but in a cooler blue colourway.

Poole Pottery Arabesque Blue is a pattern name we currently use for this blue version of a design very similar to the orange Poole Arabesque. The design features a striking circular border made up of repeated pointed motifs in soft blue, creating a crisp, decorative effect against the pale body of the ware.

At present, we have not been able to confirm the official Poole pattern name for this blue colourway. It may have been issued under a different name, or as a related variation, but until a firmer identification comes to light we list it as Arabesque Blue to help customers distinguish it from the better known orange version.

The blue Arabesque plates appear to have been used alongside Poole Celeste containing ware, such as cups, milk jugs and similar accompanying pieces, to make up the rest of the set. Customers looking for matching cups or serving pieces should therefore also check our Poole Celeste range. This is similar in principle to the original orange Arabesque, which was paired with Desert Song cups.

The pattern has a clean, mid-century feel, with the repeated motif giving the plates a light but distinctive look. It is possible the decorated plates were intended as accent pieces within a plainer setting, although we cannot confirm this with certainty. As with many discontinued Poole designs, availability depends entirely on what becomes available through the pre-loved market, so individual pieces may only appear from time to time.

If you recognise this design and know the correct Poole name, we would be very pleased to hear from you. Accurate pattern identification helps us list replacement pieces more clearly and helps customers match their china with confidence.
