Noritake can trace it's origins back to 1876 when Ichizaemon Morimura set up a trading company exporting from Tokyo to New York. Initially they simply traded in chinaware and gift items, but in 1904, inspired by a visit to the World's Fair in Paris, he opened a factory in the village of Noritake, near Nagoya in Japan. In so doing he founded Nippon Toki Kaisha Ltd, the forerunner to Noritake. In 1914 they created the first dinnerware suitable for export.
Today Noritake is one of the most prolific manufacturers of fine china tableware in the world, exporting to over 100 countries.
