Johnson Bros "Indies"

Johnson Brothers Indies is a highly recognisable blue and white design featuring floral vignettes, bird motifs and a decorative border. Long-running and widely collected, it has a classic transferware feel and is often compared with other popular blue and white patterns such as Mason’s Finlandia.

Johnson Brothers Indies was produced over a long period and became one of the best-known Johnson Brothers blue and white designs. The pattern combines floral detail, small bird motifs and a decorative border, giving it a traditional look that sits comfortably alongside other classic blue and white tableware.
For customers looking to replace a dinner plate, add extra bowls, find a teapot, or build up a larger service, Indies is a particularly practical discontinued pattern. It was made across a wide range of dinnerware, teaware and serving pieces, with square salads and cereal bowls among the pieces that collectors often look for.
The best-known version is blue and white, although the Johnson Brothers book also records other colour versions, including pink, green and brown multicolour. Because Indies was produced over many years, variations in colour, shape, backstamp and finish can occur, so careful matching is worthwhile when adding pieces to an existing set.
As with many discontinued Johnson Brothers patterns, availability varies by piece. If you are trying to complete, extend or carefully match an existing Indies service, please check our current stock regularly as individual pre-loved pieces become available.
