Hornsea Tobago (Brown) is a striking and rarely seen Hornsea Pottery design with a distinctly retro kitchen character. The warm russet-brown body is decorated with black horizontal lines, rows of dots and bold circular motifs, creating a strong graphic pattern that works particularly well on storage pieces.
The labelled jars add further character, with words such as Tea, Coffee and Sugar incorporated into rectangular panels within the decoration. Matching domed lids with rounded finials complete the look and give the pieces a substantial, slightly architectural feel.
A very different Tobago Blue colourway was also produced. The blue version uses a deep navy ground with lighter flowing motifs, while Tobago Brown has a warmer, earthier appearance built around black geometric decoration and terracotta tones.
Tobago appears to have been produced in relatively small numbers compared with better known Hornsea ranges, and information about the brown version in particular is limited. The examples we have encountered include labelled kitchen storage jars, although other pieces may also have been produced.
As Hornsea Tobago Brown is discontinued, replacement pieces are now generally found through the pre-loved market. At MrPottery we organise our available stock by piece and condition to help you find the closest possible match for an existing set.
