Hornsea Saffron was introduced in the early 1970s and became one of the pottery’s most recognisable tableware ranges. It uses the familiar Heirloom-related shapes, with rich orange-brown exteriors, creamy white interiors and a neat pattern of small circular motifs.
The design has a warm, very 1970s look, but it is also practical and easy to recognise. Flatware, cups, jugs, bowls and storage jars all carry the Saffron character well, and the kitchen storage pieces are especially popular with collectors and customers building up a working set.
Saffron was produced in large numbers and remains a favourite with Hornsea buyers, but good replacement pieces are not always easy to find. The glaze is well known for being prone to crazing, so condition matters particularly with this range. At MrPottery, each piece is checked carefully before being listed.
As a discontinued Hornsea Pottery range, Saffron is now mainly found through the pre-loved market and is often sought by customers looking for replacement china to complete, extend or match an existing set. Availability can vary by piece, especially for storage jars, serving items and examples in clean, usable condition.
When matching Hornsea Saffron replacement pieces, the key details to look for are the orange-brown exterior, creamy interior, small circle decoration and the familiar Hornsea tableware shapes. These features help distinguish Saffron from other brown and orange Hornsea designs.
