Hornsea Fleur Green was introduced in 1973 and remained in production for many years, becoming one of Hornsea Pottery’s best known tableware designs. Usually known simply as Fleur, the green version features a stylised floral pattern in green and brown on a cream ground, using the same broad family of shapes as Hornsea Heirloom.

The design was created by Sara Vardy, whose textile design background is reflected in the pattern’s repeating floral motif and balanced layout. The decoration has a soft, textured quality which suits the shape of the range particularly well, working beautifully on cups, storage jars and other upright pieces. On plates, the design is often used as a central roundel, giving the range a bold but harmonious look on the table.

Fleur was an important range for Hornsea, both commercially and in design terms. Its resist printed decoration gave the pattern a subtle embossed effect and helped create the three dimensional appearance that makes the design so recognisable. The range was also exported widely and became especially popular in the USA, where Hornsea tableware found a strong following.

As a discontinued Hornsea Pottery range, Fleur Green is now mainly found through the pre-loved market and is often sought by customers looking for replacement china to complete, extend or match an existing set. Availability can vary by piece, and plates, bowls, teapots, storage jars and serving items may not always be available at the same time.

When matching Hornsea Fleur Green replacement pieces, the key details to look for are the cream ground, the green and brown floral decoration and the familiar Hornsea shape family. It is also worth noting that Fleur was produced in a blue colourway as well, so checking the colour is helpful when matching pieces to an existing set.
