Hornsea Fantasy was introduced in 1985 and used the Linear shape, one of Hornsea’s later tableware forms. The design combined a pale body with soft pink and grey banding around the base of upright pieces and the rims of flatware, creating a more decorative alternative to the simpler Linear range.

The pattern has a clean, graphic quality, with fine lines and blocks of soft colour arranged in a restrained geometric style. On plates, the decoration sits around the rim, leaving the centre plain and practical, while cups and other upright pieces carry the banding around the lower body. The overall effect is smart and quietly decorative rather than heavily patterned.

Fantasy belongs to Hornsea’s later 1980s tableware period, when the company was producing a number of shorter and more varied ranges. It sits naturally alongside other simple line and band designs of the period, but the softer pink and grey colouring gives Fantasy its own identity and a slightly more feminine appearance.

As a discontinued Hornsea Pottery range, Fantasy is now mainly found through the pre-loved market and is often sought by customers looking for replacement china to complete, extend or match an existing set. Availability can vary quite noticeably, especially as Fantasy is not one of the Hornsea patterns we come across as often as the longer-running tableware ranges.

When matching Hornsea Fantasy replacement pieces, the key details to look for are the Linear shape, the pale ground and the soft pink and grey geometric banding. These features help distinguish it from related Hornsea designs such as Linear and Horizon.
