Hornsea Cinnamon was launched at Birmingham’s International Spring Fair in 1980 and used the Concord shape, one of Hornsea’s later oven and tableware forms. The design was described as a tan and cream version of Concord, with a warm outer body and pale cream gloss glaze to the interior and working surfaces.

The appeal of Cinnamon lies in its simple contrast between colour, texture and shape. The straight-sided forms have a strong, modern feel, while the cream rims and interiors soften the look and make the pieces practical for serving. It is a quieter design than Hornsea’s heavily patterned ranges, but still has the sculptural presence associated with the company’s late 1970s and early 1980s tableware.

Examples of Cinnamon were included in the permanent collection at the V&A Museum in London, underlining its design interest within Hornsea’s later output. The range was also produced for Harrods, with some pieces carrying a special underside mark reading “Exclusively Designed by Hornsea for Harrods”. In 1981, additional cookware and serving pieces were added, including flan dishes, soufflé dishes, ramekins, oval dishes and storage jars.

As a discontinued Hornsea Pottery range, Cinnamon is now found through the pre-loved market and is often sought by customers looking for replacement china to complete, extend or match an existing set. Availability can vary across the range, especially for cookware, storage jars, lidded pieces and matching saucers or stands.

When matching Cinnamon replacement pieces, it is worth checking the shape, glaze finish and backstamp carefully, particularly where Harrods-marked examples or related Concord-shape pieces are involved. The combination of warm tan exterior and glossy cream interior remains the clearest visual guide.
