Denby Melody is a lesser documented floral pattern from Denby Pottery, characterised by its light, airy decoration of trailing flowers in soft red and yellow tones, complemented by subtle green foliage. The design sits comfortably within Denby’s tradition of combining practical stoneware with simple decorative motifs.
Earlier examples of Melody were produced on straighter sided, rimmed shapes, similar in form to designs such as Dauphine. These pieces tend to have a more structured profile, with the decoration sitting neatly within the flatter centres and borders.
A later version, produced during the Coloroll ownership period, appears on more rounded, softer shapes without a defined rim. While clearly related in decoration, this variation has a noticeably different feel in hand and presentation. The specific name of this later version is not widely recorded, and pieces are generally grouped under the Melody name.
As a now discontinued design, Denby Melody is sought after by those looking for replacement china to complete or extend an existing set, as well as by collectors drawn to its softer floral style. Availability can vary depending on the piece and version, particularly where customers are looking to match a specific shape or style.
