Denby Sonnet was introduced in the late 1970s and produced for a relatively short period into the early 1980s. It was made on the same shape as Gill Pemberton’s earlier Rondo design, sharing its strong, slightly architectural forms and practical everyday styling.
The design features a soft mink brown glaze, often with a slightly darker banding and subtle decorative detailing around the rim. This restrained palette gives Sonnet a calm, neutral appearance, making it easy to mix into a variety of table settings.
Like many Denby ranges of the period, Sonnet was produced in a wide selection of tableware and serving pieces. Due to its shorter production run, some items can now be more difficult to source, particularly larger serving pieces and less commonly used items.
As a now discontinued pattern, Denby Sonnet is sought after by those looking for replacement china to complete or extend an existing set. Availability can vary depending on the piece, as supply is dependent on what becomes available in the pre-loved market.
