Denby Sahara forms part of Denby’s Natural Collection, a group of designs that embraced simplicity, natural tones and practical forms. Produced during the 1970s, the collection offered a more understated alternative to some of Denby’s more decorative ranges.
The design features a warm sandstone coloured body with a soft speckled finish, complemented by a dark brown rim and banded rings around the base of certain pieces. This restrained decoration gives the range a clean and versatile appearance, allowing it to sit comfortably in a wide variety of settings.
Sahara was produced alongside related patterns such as Denby Corfu and Fjord, which share the same underlying shapes and design philosophy but differ in colour. Together, these ranges form a cohesive group within Denby’s mid century output.
As with most Denby ranges, Sahara was produced as a full service, including plates, bowls, cups and a variety of serving pieces, all designed with durability and everyday use in mind.
Now discontinued, Denby Sahara remains a popular choice for those looking to replace or extend an existing set. Availability can vary depending on the piece, as stock depends on what becomes available in the pre-loved market.
When matching Denby Sahara, it is worth noting that variations can occur in the tone of the sandstone glaze and the depth of the brown banding. These subtle differences are typical of Denby’s production methods and form part of the character of the pattern.
