Denby Regatta was introduced in 1992 and designed by Claire Bernard, one of Denby’s most influential designers of the 1980s and 1990s. Produced on the Sovereign shape, the range reflects a move towards more fluid, contemporary forms combined with expressive glazing techniques.
The design is characterised by its use of deep, glossy glazes in alternating tones of royal blue and green. These colours are applied in a way that enhances the contours and detailing of the Sovereign shape, with the glaze flowing naturally across the surface to create a sense of depth and movement.
The Sovereign shape itself is known for its soft curves, elegant profiles and more refined feel compared to some of Denby’s earlier, heavier ranges. Regatta makes full use of these qualities, with the contrasting glazes emphasising rims, handles and lids, giving each piece a distinctive and cohesive look.
As with many Denby ranges, Regatta was produced as a full service, including plates, bowls, cups and a variety of serving and lidded pieces, all designed for both practicality and visual impact.
Now discontinued, Denby Regatta remains a popular choice for those looking to replace or extend an existing set. Availability can vary depending on the piece, particularly for more specialised items, as stock depends on what becomes available in the pre-loved market.
