Denby Reflex is a later Denby design, reflecting the pottery’s continued move into more contemporary styling, combining traditional stoneware with stronger graphic decoration. While exact production dates are less clearly documented, the range is generally associated with Denby’s modern era, where bolder patterns and simplified forms became more prominent.
The design is defined by its distinctive check pattern, formed from deep blue squares set against a softer matt blue ground. This creates a striking contrast and gives the range a more structured, geometric feel compared to Denby’s earlier floral or reactive glaze designs. Interiors are typically finished in white, providing a clean and practical contrast to the darker exterior.
Flatware within the range features a narrower profile, with the check pattern often carried through onto the rim, while hollowware such as jugs and mugs showcase the full pattern across their exterior surfaces. The combination of matt glaze and crisp decoration gives the range a contemporary, almost graphic quality.
As with most Denby tableware, Reflex was produced as a practical working range, including plates, bowls, cups and serving pieces designed for everyday use, combining durability with visual appeal.
Now discontinued, Denby Reflex remains a popular choice for those looking to replace or extend an existing set, particularly given its distinctive design. Availability can vary depending on the piece, as stock depends on what becomes available in the pre-loved market.
