Read more about Denby Sherwood
Denby / Langley Sherwood was introduced in the mid 1960s as part of the Natural Homemaker series, originally produced by Langley Pottery during the period when it was owned by Denby. Early pieces typically carry the Langley backstamp, while later production was marked Denby, and some items, particularly non-flatware, were left unmarked.
Sherwood is instantly recognisable for its symmetrical floral motif, combining olive greens, warm ochre tones and soft cream, often framed by a gently banded rim. The design reflects the broader Natural Homemaker aesthetic, practical, decorative, and very much of its time.
Produced over a number of years, Sherwood was made in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. As a result, slight variations can occur between pieces, particularly in items such as cups and smaller wares, where dimensions and detailing may differ subtly depending on when they were made.
The Natural Homemaker series also included related designs such as Denby Mayflower (Brown), Denby Chatsworth (Blue), and Denby Canterbury (Orange), all sharing similar shapes with differing colourways and decoration.
As a now discontinued pattern, Denby Sherwood remains popular with collectors and those looking for replacement china to complete or extend an existing set. Availability can vary depending on the piece, as supply is dependent on what becomes available in the pre-loved market.
We do not distinguish between Langley and Denby backstamps in our listings, as the pieces are otherwise identical. If you have a specific preference, please contact us before ordering.
