Denby "Ferndale"

Denby Ferndale

Denby Ferndale is a distinctive decorative design from Denby Pottery, produced during the mid-20th century and decorated by Glyn Colledge. Featuring a soft pale green glaze with fine white tube-lined scrolls, it represents one of the pottery’s most successful decorative ranges of the period.

Denby Ferndale was created during the 1930s and forms part of a series of decorative designs produced by Glyn Colledge in collaboration with his father, Albert Colledge. The shapes themselves were designed by Albert, while Glyn was responsible for the distinctive decorative work.

The range is characterised by its satin pale green glaze, over which fine white tube-lined scrolls are carefully applied. This technique gives the decoration a slightly raised, hand-crafted quality, adding both texture and visual interest to each piece.

Ferndale reflects the growing emphasis on decorative studio-inspired ware at Denby during this period, combining practical stoneware forms with more artistic surface design.

It proved to be one of the most commercially successful decorative lines produced by Denby in the 1930s, and remains highly regarded today for its understated elegance and craftsmanship.

As a now discontinued and increasingly collectible design, Denby Ferndale is sought after by collectors as well as those looking to replace or extend existing pieces. Availability can vary depending on the item, as supply is dependent on what becomes available on the pre-loved market.

We regularly source Denby Ferndale from the pre-loved market, so availability changes frequently.
