Denby "Epic"

First issued in 1933, Denby Epic represents one of Denby’s earlier tableware designs, produced at a time when the pottery was developing its reputation for durable and practical domestic stoneware.

The range is based on classic shapes designed by Donald Gilbert, whose work helped establish the functional yet characterful forms associated with Denby during this period. These shapes are simple and well balanced, designed for everyday use while maintaining a strong visual identity.

Epic is finished in a distinctive green glaze, complemented by soft cream interiors. Many pieces feature an incised scalloped decoration on the exterior, adding subtle texture and interest without overpowering the overall design.

The combination of restrained colour and decorative detailing gives the pattern a timeless quality, bridging the gap between traditional styling and the more modern stoneware designs that would follow in later decades.
